Programs

Each dance class begins with a warm-up in order to prepare the body for exercise and to prevent injuries. Various stretching and strengthening exercises are performed during the warm-up to increase flexibility, strength and control. All classes include the learning of basic steps and progressive skills specific to th-e dance form. Classes progress to the centre of the room where dancers learn, practice, and perform a dance combination specific to the type of dance, age, and level of the class.

Recreational

We have classes suitable to all levels of dancers. If you are not sure which class you should register for check with the studio.

Classes offered at the recreational level include:

Jazz
Students in jazz classes will learn proper technique (including jumps and turns) while developing style and confidence to perform on the stage.

Acro(batics)
Acro is a style of dance that combines traditional jazz dance technique with precision acrobatic tricks.

Jazz/Acro
Jazz/Acro Dance combines basic tumbling skills with the excitement of jazz and blends them into a fun and creative class.

Lyrical (jazz)
Lyrical classes combine elements of jazz, modern, and ballet dance to create unique works of art. Characterized by its fluid and graceful movements, routines tell a 'story' and capture the emotion and interpretation of the music.

Ballet
Dancers are taught the basics and fundamentals of dance through ballet. The dancer develops poise and self-confidence through this graceful art form. Dancers are trained according to the Royal Academy of Dance methods. R.A.D. graded class as well as examinations are available.

Tap
This program incorporates rhythm, timing, and coordination. Dancers will learn and acquire basic, progressive, and intricate tap skills. Tap dancing allows dancers to make music with their feet by performing rhythm-based tap choreography.

HipHop
This program is a high-energy dance experience that is fun for dancers of all ages. It combines funky dance movements performed to trendy hip hop music. It is a refined form of street dance that is similar to the movements seen in music videos and the entertainment industry.

RAD

With over 13,000 members' spread across 83 countries, The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organizations in the world. Gotta Dance offers Ballet programs, for certain levels geared to the RAD examinations. For more information please contact the studio.

Currently we offer classes in Irish, Stomp, AfroCuban, Modern, Boys Only and more! Please see the 2010/2011 Recreational Schedule for details. We also offer adult classes in Hip Hop, Jazz, Fitness, Zumba and Ballroom/Latin. Our adult schedule will be available soon. Please check back for more information.

Irish
Irish step dancing is generally characterized by a controlled but not rigid upper body, straight arms, and quick, precise movements of the feet.

Afro Cuban
Afro-Cuban dance, like many other Latin dances, has a driving beat and makes you move your body rhythmically. It is a combination of jazz improvising and rhythms from Cuba and Africa; it is also known as Latin jazz.

Modern
Modern dance is a dance style that centers on a dancer's own interpretations instead of structured steps, as in traditional ballet dancing. Modern dancers reject the limitations of classical ballet and favor movements derived from the expression of their inner feelings.

Kinderdance
Kinderdance is a fun and fast-paced class for little ones interested in dance. With a mix of acro and ballet, young dancers are introduced to basic technique and movement through creative instruction.

Tumbling/Kindergym
Dancers will learn to execute tricks and exercises requiring physical strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, balance, and grace similar to the mat component of gymnastics.
